Leserbilder Astronomie: The Sky above Monteriggioni
The castle of Monteriggioni (near Siena, Tuscany, Italy) was founded by the Republic of Siena at the beginning of the 13th century, placing it at the center of the defensive system of the northern border. The grandeur of its towers impressed the famous Italian writer Dante Alighieri to such an extent that he cited it in the Divine Comedy: “Però che, come su la circola tonda, Monteriggion di torri si corona…” (Canto XXXI 40 Inferno). I wanted to immortalize the profile of the towers under the serenity of the starry sky trying to harmonize the union between the sky and the hilly landscape characterized by vineyards and olive trees.
