IC 5067 (also known as IC5070 or LBN 353)) - The Pelican Nebula is located in the constellation Cygnus. This is a large but low-surface-brightness hydrogen emission nebula. This area of star formation is located approximately 2000 light years away. The prominent ridge spans about 10 light years and follows the curve of the cosmic pelican's head and neck. The dark shapes are clouds of cool gas and dust sculpted by energetic radiation from young, hot, massive stars. But stars are also forming within the dark shapes and the jets emerging from the tip of the long strip are the signs of a protostar cataloged as Herbig-Haro 555. These objects take their name from George Herbig and Guillermo Haro who first described them over 50 years ago. HH objects are typically seen along the rotational axis of the star, and are a relatively brief cosmic light show, they only last a few thousand years.
