Leserbilder Astronomie: NGC 7129: a stellar nursery
NGC 7129 is an HII-region located approximately 3000 light-years from Earth, in the constellation Cepheus. It constitutes a real stellar nursery, as inside there are numerous young blue stars (a few million years old). It is no coincidence that the most evident feature of the object is represented by the bluish clouds, due to the reflection of starlight. The weaker filaments with reddish emission mixed with the blue clouds are caused by dust grains that effectively convert the invisible ultraviolet radiation into red light via photoluminescence. Also visible in the image are additional dust surrounding the region. The shot was taken in Stigliano (MT) during the second star party in the South, organized by the Salento Amateur Astronomers Group.
